At Conexiones Creativas, we believe that physical spaces are the ultimate catalysts for “cross-pollination”—the intersection where diverse creative sectors meet traditional industries and local communities. For over 11 years, we have championed the development of Cultural and Creative Districts across the Americas and Europe, transforming urban areas into vibrant Third Places.
A prime example of this is our ongoing work with the Platform of Cultural and Creative Territories and Districts. Recently, during our 12th Encounter in Río Grande do Sul, Brazil, we witnessed firsthand how reclaiming urban spaces for culture can forge profound social bonds. By bringing together policymakers, artists, and everyday citizens, these districts evolve beyond mere geographical locations; they become living ecosystems of belonging, participation, and collective ownership.
However, creating these spaces is not without its tensions. We constantly navigate the challenges of urban gentrification to ensure these ecosystems remain accessible. Our methodology focuses on community-driven public policies, ensuring that as a space develops creatively, it continues to serve as an inclusive anchor for its original inhabitants. Through initiatives like our Campus Conecta, we strive to build networks where creative spaces break down barriers rather than build new ones, truly connecting universes.
