Q’ART began almost a decade ago as an artistic intervention into the everyday logic of the city. What started as a temporary activation of neglected public space in Zagreb gradually evolved into a long-term community art platform exploring how art can regenerate relationships between people, spaces, and collective memory.
For us, public space is not simply infrastructure. It is a social organism. A place where belonging is continuously negotiated, where social visibility is produced, and where communities either connect — or disappear into isolation.
Through festivals, artistic interventions, participatory workshops, public discussions, and collaborations with vulnerable groups, Q’ART transforms streets, abandoned buildings, and overlooked urban areas into temporary Third Places — spaces where people do not gather as consumers, but as participants, co-authors, neighbours, and witnesses of one another.
Our practice is rooted in the idea of radical inclusion. We work with children, migrants, former addicts, homeless people, oncology patients, students, elderly citizens, artists, craftspeople, and local residents, creating environments where different social realities can coexist without hierarchy. In this context, art becomes a social methodology rather than a cultural product.
Over the years, we have learned that creating social bonds through space is not only about physical accessibility. It is also about emotional permission: creating environments where people feel safe enough to slow down, encounter difference, express vulnerability, and reconnect with themselves and others.
This understanding became central to our new platform Q’ART & CARE and to our current artistic-research project, Q’ART Community Art – Artistic Practices in Social and Natural Processes, developed in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb. The project explores art as a tool for social regeneration, emotional mapping, collective care, and the reactivation of public space through participatory artistic practices.Q’ART does not see art as decoration of the city.
We see it as a methodology for rebuilding social presence, sensitivity, and shared responsibility.
