At Circo all’inCirca, and through Terminal Festival, we work with public space as a living environment where relationships can emerge, rather than simply a backdrop for artistic presentation. Each year, Terminal transforms Parco Moretti in Udine into a shared cultural space where people are invited not only to watch performances, but to spend time, meet others, and feel part of a temporary community. The festival operates as a “third place”: a space that is neither home nor workplace, but a site of informal encounter. Families, young people, artists, and local communities coexist throughout the day, participating in workshops, rehearsals, conversations, and performances. This continuity of presence allows the audience to move from spectators to participants, building a sense of belonging over time.

Our work throughout the year strengthens this dynamic. Circo all’inCirca is not only a festival organiser but a daily practice space, attended by hundreds of people of different ages and backgrounds. Many of them return to the festival as active participants, volunteers, or simply as a community that recognises itself in that space. At the same time, we are aware that creating inclusive spaces is an ongoing process. Public space can also reproduce barriers, whether cultural, social, or economic. For this reason, we invest in mediation activities, collaborations with social organisations, and accessible programming, trying to ensure that the space remains open and welcoming. For us, space is not neutral: it becomes meaningful through the relationships that take place within it.
